Nigeria is a country brimming with potential. With a population of over 200 million people, a significant proportion of whom are under the age of 30, the country is poised to harness its demographic dividend for sustainable development. However, Nigeria also faces significant challenges, including high levels of unemployment, poverty, and infrastructural deficits. Traditional development approaches have struggled to keep pace with the rapid changes and complexities of these issues. Recognizing the need for a new approach, the UNDP Nigeria took a decisive step by opening its Innovation Center in the city of Lagos – the home of fintech and innovation.
The UNDP Innovation Center is not just another development project—it is a bold experiment in reimagining the way development is done. The center was designed to catalyze innovation, serving as a vessel for ideas that can transform Nigeria’s development landscape. It is a space where innovation is not just encouraged but systematically incubated, aggregated, and enhanced across the country’s ecosystems. Through the center, UNDP aims to bridge the gap between traditional development methods and the digital transformation that is sweeping across the globe.
